EGL USA experts lecture on new diamond treatments in five-city trade tour

EGL USA, the gemological laboratory that has been involved in groundbreaking work on new diamond treatments, is sponsoring a five-city lecture series for retailers and the trade. The lectures will take place in New York, Atlanta, Washington, DC, Spokane, and Seattle from September through November. (do you have dates or say go to your web site for a list of specific dates, are they free?). EGL USA gemologists Gregory E. Sherman, Nick Del Re, and Branko Deljanin will address the latest news about High Pressure High Temperature technology, diamond classification, rough diamond evaluation, synthetic diamonds, and new diamond treatments.

"The response from the jewelry industry to our previous lectures in the U.S. and abroad has been very positive, and we will continue to support the educational needs of the trade with this program," said Sherman, FGA, DGA, GG, who is EGL USA's Director of Marketing and Education. "To protect the consumer and the reputation of our trade, it is critical that retailers stay abreast of new diamond technology and treatments, such as HPHT color modification of diamonds, synthetic diamonds, and new laser drilling processes," he said. "These will all be covered in the fall lecture series."

According to Del Re, Manager of Gemological Services at EGL USA, "Certain situations like HPHT diamonds require advanced identification, but jewelers can still do a lot in their own stores with common equipment. Magnification combined with different lighting techniques, ultra violet light, electrical conductivity tests, and other instruments are all readily available as a first line of defense." For more information about EGL USA's lectures jewelers should call 212-730-7380, extension 214.

EGL USA is an independent full-service gemological laboratory with offices in New York and Los Angeles. A free booklet, entitled "Changing the Color of Diamonds: The High Pressure High Temperature Process Explained," is available to members of the trade by calling 212-730-7380.
